Day 1 part 2
of my Hong Kong trip with Zhuzhu
Date: Dec 04 2009
Day: Friday, Afternoon
Venue: Yee Shun Dairy Dessert Shop
Location: 506 Lockhart Rd, Causeway Bay
Direction: Causeway Bay station, Exit C
The first thing we did almost right after reaching Hong Kong, besides checking into the hotel, was to find Zhuzhu's highly acclaimed Steamed Milk Pudding or Dun Nai (in Mandarin). The dessert shop is known as Yee Shun Dairy Co. with a few outlets in both Hong Kong and Macau. We went to the one at Causeway Bay. It's a small and busy shop with high table turnover. Service is gunslinger-quick. Tea, which we didn't order, was served swiftly after we sat down, a reflection of Yum cha ('drinking tea') as an integral part of Hong Kong's culinary culture. Back to the star of the menu, one can choose from flavors like coffee, ginger, almond and red bean to be served hot or chilled. I ordered double-steamed milk pudding which is their signature dish, while Zhuzhu ordered ginger steamed milk pudding for a change. Review: I love the rich milky aroma. I bet the milk used in the recipe is different from those we can buy off the shelves. And woah! It melts in the mouth. Smooth! And the extra skin on top (caused by the 'double-steaming effect) adds just the right finishing touch to this perfection. I definitely recommend this and not the latter. The ginger taste is too strong for us, kindoff cover the original taste. But if you like ginger, you'll love this. :)
